Evan was a weird kid. There was really no way around it and there was really no nicer way to put it. The way he looked, acted, hell even the way he sounded gave off this unusual kind of air that made it seem like he was either out of his mind or a complete idiot. And the truth probably encompassed a little bit of both of those things. Evan had always been a weird kid too, even when he was little. But instead of growing out of it like most kids would have, the quality had only grown and become more prominent in Evans personality over the years. He had just accumulated more quirks and habits that made him seem like some kind of strange creature. Quirks like sneaking out in the middle of the night and laying in an empty field and ‘hunting for aliens’ or wearing a gorilla costume to the supermarket just because he saw it laying around, or for that matter having a gorilla costume laying around at all.
And one of Evan’s biggest quirk and the one that he would never break even if you paid him to, was his weekly trip to the zoo. He did know where this tradition of his came from, he just knew that it was something he had done and would continue to do forever. One week he had gotten caught up in doing other things and hadn’t been able to get to the zoo and the entire week he could tell that something wasn’t right. He felt like everything he did was just off in some way, shape or form. The feeling bothered him and he decided it would be in his best interest to avoid its return. And since that one week Evan had somehow managed to make time to get to the zoo so he could watch some of the animals go about their business. And that was exactly what he had done this week, same as every other. So when Evan had entered the zoo on that bright afternoon, the employees were not surprised at all to see him there. He had breezed right in and immediately made his way to where the lions were located. It wasn’t that Evan had a particular love of lions or anything, it was just all part of what most would refer to as his ‘silly routine’.
The sun was out and shining brightly as Evan pushed farther into the zoo and found himself at the elephant area. It was perfect weather for a visit to the zoo. Not too chilly, but not too warm either. Just perfect. And by the looks of things, the elephants seemed to agree. The large creatures were all outside in the sunlight, either basking in the sun’s warmth or walking around aimlessly. Leaning against the guard rail Evan scanned over and admired the giant creatures. The metal pole was digging into his stomach, but Evan ignored the ache that was slowly making itself known to him and continued to watch the animals go about their business. He couldn’t help but wonder what it was like to be one of the elephants he was looking at. On one hand it was probably awesome. To be this great big animal and to just hang out all day. But on the other hand it probably sucked. You were constantly being held captive by creatures that were a lot smaller than you and you were just constantly being stared at. In a way Evan kind of understood what it was like to be stared at all the time. Not because he thought he was a totally hot mega-babe or anything, but when you did weird things like he did, people tended to stare. They stared a lot.
The more Evan thought about it, the more it annoyed him. To think that these poor animals were locked up in cages and stared at all day. For a split second he contemplated rushing the gates and just setting all of them free. But the idea was shot down as quickly as it had been made up. First of all because Evan would get in a whole mess of trouble that he really didn’t need to be in at that point in his life. And second of all this was London. Even if the elephants decided to go, they’d probably die. London wasn’t exactly an ‘elephant-friendly’ environment. A look of disappointment appeared on Evan’s face and he spoke aloud to the animals. “Ah, sorry about that big guy.” Evan shrugged his shoulders a bit and finally moved from the rail. There was a pain in his stomach; but he ignored it and moved to the benches that were scattered around. He dropped his bag on the ground and pulled out a copy of Macbeth. Another quirk? Absolutely. Crossing his legs underneath him Evan buried his nose in the Shakespeare tragedy, ignoring his surroundings completely.[/blockquote] elibaby! :] graphic credit: emilie cashh @ CAUTION 2.0 word count: eight hundred and thirty seven ! lyric credit: okay i believe you, but my tommy gun don't - brand new ! outfit: clickeh!notes: GAH. "If you'll be my map then I will be your compass to guide us back home." The zoo was busy today but Elijah had no way of telling if this was normal for a zoo or not. He'd been once before but hadn't payed much attention to the crowds as he was far to busy dragging his friend, Ryan, around between the different enclosures. Today he was alone and the masses of people around him made him so very aware of that. Carefully boy, who was just on the shorter side of average height, weaved his way through parents and pushchairs and only just managed to dodge a sprinting toddler on his way to the big wooden board with a map printed on it. First thing first he looked at the big red dot with the printed words YOU ARE HERE!
softly he placed his index finger on the circle and started tracing the route he'd have to take to get to the animal he had come here especially to see. Elijah loved animals. He loved all different kinds of animals from his pet budgie, Winston, to the foxes he fed outside his building and then on the bigger, more exotic animals. Ones that you couldn't even see in a zoo. Most of all though, he loved elephants. For as long as he remembered he'd been fascinated by the giant creatures and could quite happily spend hours on end looking at pictures and reading about them. So when he'd heard that there was a baby elephant born in London zoo Eli made sure to keep track of it's progress on the zoo's website until the day came that it was announced the baby would be put into the public enclosure for everyone to see. That was only yesterday and when it turned out everyone else was working or at school Eli made the bold decisions to come on his own. With a adorably childlike grin on his face he let his hand drop and as quickly as he could negotiated himself away from the board and attempted to make his way to the large grey animals he was so excited about seeing. Every now and then he'd be stopped in his tracks and look around at the sign posts to make sure he was heading in the right direction. It must have been at least twenty minutes before he could stop and grab onto the railing and feel his pale blue eyes get wide as he reached his destination. The silent teen stepped up onto the bottom bar of the railing to lift himself higher off the ground and give him a better view. And that is where he stayed. Clinging to the barrier with his face lit up in a childlike expression of wonderment. tags: evandear word count: 447 notes: this is actually terrible and pointless but i'm uber distracted today. prettyness coming soon. ilcaroline <3[/blockquote][/blockquote]

One of the great things about Evan was the fact that he could practically turn invisible if he stayed still and quiet for prolonged periods of time. This little fact was hard to believe considering the little red-haired boy never shut his mouth long enough for anybody else to possibly get a word in, but it was true. People were just so anxious to ignore the people who didn’t say much. So Evan always made sure he talked almost a little too much and that way at least somebody would pay attention, even if what he said really didn’t hold any sort of significance at all. Okay, so maybe this quality annoyed some people, but things like that never bothered Evan. After all, he would have much rather done exactly what he wanted to do and been happy, then do what other people wanted him to and be miserable.
Needless to say, Evan was in the midst one of his disappearing acts as he sat in the elephant exhibit with his nose buried in Macbeth on that particular day. There were crowds of people moving about, and the occasional person brushed against him or nearly pushed him over without so much as an apology. But Evan acknowledged none of it. The boy was borderline hypnotized by the brilliant words on the page. Something told him that he always would be. After all, this was pretty much his millionth time reading the tragedy, and it was still probably his favorite story of all time always. There was nothing quite like the fall of a great military hero to make you feel good about being a young hippie kid. At least that was Evan’s opinion anyway.
His teeth were gnawing at the colorful thread bracelets that decorated his wrist as his eyes glided over the verses that he, to put it in the cheesiest of terms, ‘had fallen in love with’, when there was a particular hard nudge that sent Evan towards the ground. Some tourist with an overly large camera bag, and what a surprise, he didn‘t even turn around to see what he had bumped into. Evan grumbled lightly to himself and rose so he was standing once more. One thing was sure, if Evan was the confrontational type, the man would be laying on the ground with a black eye or bleeding nose for interrupting Evan when he was so fully absorbed in his reading. But fortunately for the man, Evan wasn’t confrontational; in fact, he would avoid confronting somebody directly at all costs with very very few exceptions. So instead of at least requesting an apology from the oblivious man, Evan grumbled a few unkind words under his breath and pulled himself up from the ground and into a standing position.
It wasn’t until Evan was on his feet that he even noticed the large crowds of people around him, gaping at the majestic gray creatures. At that moment, Evan decided that it was entirely too crowded in the exhibit for his taste and that he should find some place a little more quiet to continue his reading. He dropped the book into his backpack, and slung the sack of randomly assorted things over his back. His tall form started to make it’s way out of the exhibit, hardly aware of the direction he was going in. A few seconds later, Evan bumped into something. It was too hard to be a pole, so he immediately assumed that it was another person. Not wanted to be like the other rude people surrounding them, Evan whipped around and started spouting his apology to the unknown form. “Oh whoa, sorry about that!”

"If you'll be my map then I will be your compass to guide us back home." Slowly all Elijah's worries about being outside in a crowded place on his own were ebbing away. It had only been a few minutes, or half an hour or maybe half a day had passed since he had stepped up onto the cold metal bar. He couldn't have told you if you asked him and honestly he was alright with that. The day was turning out to be a nice escape. Escape from fear and from constantly being looked after like some kind of over grown two year old. Elijah was different but no one here knew that. Not like his friends or his classmates or the people who lived in his building. Right now he wasn't the mute kid or the scarred kid or the incredibly innocent kid who must be protected from everything.
There were people surrounding him. It was almost comforting. There were far too many people for anything bad to happen. On several occasions Elijah would part his lips and mouth an apology to someone who surely owed him one but it was seldom anyone took notice of this. A soft and silent sigh, no more then a long exhale of breath past those perfectly shaped lips of his and he focused his attention back onto the animals in front of him. The baby was at the very back of the enclosure. Hiding behind the legs of what Eli could only assume was it's mother. Cute he thought. He also couldn't help but feel sorry for the little creature. It must be strange to all of a sudden be taken from the only place you've ever known and be shoved out into the view of thousands of strange things. It was a feeling he thought he could sympathize with.
The sun that had been providing a comfortable warmth before was starting to cause problems. It was heating up the bar that the nineteen year old was holding onto. Not enough to hurt his palms but definitely enough to cause an undesirable layer of sticky sweat beads to start forming. It was probably a good time to get off the railing so he stole a quick glance down to make sure there was nothing beneath him before carefully lowering himself to the ground. What he hadn't done was look around him so he hadn't seen the young man walking in his direction. Their bodies collided in a sharp jolt that brought Elijah's mind straight back to his surroundings.
Instantly his body tensed up and his eyes closed. He wasn't sure what he was waiting for but whatever it was it never came. Instead what he got was an apology. A tiny flush of spread over his cheeks as he turned to look at the boy for the first time. Smiling nervously he shook his head dismissively. it's okay. Was what he hoped these simple gestures said. It was something he could never be sure of. Some people would pick up on this but others would assume he was being rude by not gushing his acceptance. Awkwardly he shifted his wait from one foot to the other as he waited to see what reaction he was going to get from the boy he'd quite literally just bumped into.

Now Evan may have spaced out a lot and he may not have a superior level of intelligence, and some may even refer to him as ‘weird’ or ‘crazy’; but if there was one thing that Evan absolutely wasn’t, it was rude. That was just the way he had been raised. His parents had never accepted anything less than gentlemanly behavior from their little Evan, and he had never provided them with anything less. He always said please and thank you, held the door for people walking behind him, he even helped a little old lady cross the street one time. Okay that last one was a lie, but if Evan had ever come across a little old lady that needed help crossing the street, then he would have helped her. With the exception of an overactive sex drive Evan was practically a boy scout. And even then, who knew what those boy scouts really did in their spare time? When they weren’t helping little old ladies and making the world a better place for all they could be sexual party fiends. Probably not, but it wasn’t completely out of the realm of possibilities.
When Evan’s eyes caught on just who he had bumped into he couldn’t resist the small smile that quickly fought its way to his lips. This boy was cute. Really cute actually. The kind of cute that made Evan want to just give him a big hug, or just scoop him up and snuggle him right there in the middle of the elephant exhibit. But the young man resisted his urge because he didn’t want to freak the poor kid out within the first five minutes of meeting him. Although Evan wouldn’t have been freaked out in the least if something like that had happened to him, he knew enough about what other people considered ’normal behavior’ to know that doing anything more than shaking hands with somebody you hadn’t met yet wasn’t quite ’normal’. It was rare that Evan even possessed the ability to exercise such self-control. The resistance to express such over-the-top emotion even shocked him a little bit and he had to remind himself to act like he wasn‘t a complete weird-o.
If Evan had been anybody else with any shred of intelligence in their heads, then he would have the other boys lack of verbal response unusual and continued on their merry way. And even if they hadn’t found the encounter odd, they would have continued with their business and acted like nothing had even happened. But Evan wasn’t anybody else, he was …well he was Evan Abraham Valencia. The fact that the kid might be mute or just not want to talk to him didn‘t even cross his mind. Evan always wanted to meet and talk to new and different people, so why shouldn’t other people want to do the same? It was a good thing Evan was as cute as he was, because the poor kid was just plain dense sometimes. So instead of continuing on his mission to find some place more quiet so he could continue his reading, he outstretched a hand towards the other boy. “Hi there! I’m Evan!” As Evan introduced himself large bright smile spread across his cheeks. Like the mass of read curls on top of his head, Evan’s smile was one of the things about him that was absolutely unmistakable. If he gave you a real smile it was big and it was bright and although it made him look like he was seven years old it could melt your heart within seconds.

"If you'll be my map then I will be your compass to guide us back home." A smile. God, what a smile. It was the kind of expression that easily cut through the nerves that were wrapping themselves around each and every thought that was running through Elijah's mind. Maybe this was bad. Maybe he shouldn't be letting his guard down around this seemingly rather charming stranger. He was the first person all day to apologize for bumping into him, but that didn't mean he was the nicest, did it? Then again his instant distrust of the other male was unfair. For the small boy knew he could have just met the nicest person in the whole wide world.
He looked down at the dark brown leather of his boots and tried to remind himself. It's a busy place, nothing bad can happen. Only a moment later he lifted his gaze. Not quite enough to meet that of his new acquaintance but enough to steal an other glance of that smile.
Evan. He hadn't met an Evan before. An uncertain smile slowly took hold of the corners of Elijah's mouth. How he wished he had the kind of smile that could grab someones attention like Evan's had. His instincts took over and without much of a thought his hand was slipping into his jacket pocket to find the ever present notebook and his favorite pen. You know, the one pen that gives the perfect amount of ink at all times and never smudges. The kind that you feel a little pang of sadness over when they eventually run out. Expertly he flipped the book open to the first blank page and wrote neatly I'm Elijah. Sorry, I didn't look where I was going.
The letters were big enough to be read from a short distance but not so huge that he'd have to turn the page again to write something else down. Flipping the book around in his hands he held it steadily in front of him. Eyes diverted and teeth firmly clenched around the inside of his cheek Elijah waited. tags: evandear word count: 336 credit: tyler knott gregson notes: they were the best nipple attacking friends ever. so short. blame the baby being cute next to me.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

When the other boy didn’t answer him right away, Evan was a little concerned. Maybe this boy really didn’t want to talk to him and maybe he was legitimately freaking the other boy out. That was something that Evan hadn’t even thought about until that moment. Maybe it was just because he forced people to talk to him and didn’t really notice any kind of refusal they offered, but Evan had never actually met a person that didn’t want to talk to him before. And that wasn’t meant in a conceited way. Evan was a people person, and he always had been. It was extremely rare to see him alone when he didn’t want to be alone. He just kind of got along with everybody. An innocent kind of charm was his specialty, and people seemed to like that about him. And those that didn’t really didn’t matter to him anyway. Either way, Evan found himself unsure of what he should do. He didn’t want to just walk away from the other kid like that, but then if the other boy wanted to be left alone Evan wouldn’t really have a choice. But then again, maybe the other boy hadn’t heard him and Evan should repeat himself.
But the moment that Evan opened his mouth the repeat his apology, the boy he had bumped into pulled out a pad of paper and started writing on it. Evan didn’t take his eyes off of the boy as he scribbled down something unknown on the pad. As the other boy wrote, Evan found himself staring at the other boy and taking in his features. Evan made the step from casually admiring, to full on staring. But he just couldn’t stop himself. This boy was absolutely adorable. His hair, his soft features, even his hands were cute. Only Evan would find somebody’s hands attractive. But that was yet another quirk about the silly little redhead.
When the pad of paper was outstretched towards him, Evan was pulled away from his thoughts and he stopped staring for a second so he could read the words on the paper. His eyes squinted a bit as his eyes glided over each word. So his name was Elijah, hm? Evan smiled and nodded his head a bit. “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you Elijah.” Evan’s eyes glided over the second part of what was written and he shook his head quickly. “I wasn’t really looking where I was going either. So I guess it was my fault too.” A chuckle escaped from his throat and he gave the boy a bright smile. It wasn’t until that moment that Evan realized Elijah hadn’t actually spoken out loud to him. Something clicked in the mind of the red haired boy and he looked at Elijah with curiosity. “So…do you talk?” The question could have been taken somewhat offensively if Evan wasn’t the kind of person that you could tell lovely everybody all the time.[/blockquote] elibaby! :] graphic credit: emilie cashh @ CAUTION 2.0 word count: five hundred and seventeen ! lyric credit: okay i believe you, but my tommy gun don't - brand new ! outfit: clickeh!notes: they were! we seriously do need to bring them back though. they were so adorable![/ul]
